Business Link
Business Link is the agency tasked by the Department of Trade and Industry (now BERR) with making Britain a good place to launch and grow small firms. Much of its work is channeled through the network of Business Link advice centres run by local providers for small business around England.
In 2005, the central Business Link team asked us to rewrite and refresh the design of a series of government publications aimed at spreading best practice in employment. The resulting publication - entitled Getting the Most out of Your People at Work - was designed to appeal specifically to the small business market, and was distributed through the Business Link network. Since then we have worked with Business Link on a range of other publications and projects.

The Government Office for the East of England
The Government Office for the East of England draws together
into a single operation the activities of a range of Government
departments in the region. Its role is to ensure joined-up
strategic thinking and effective delivery of policy.
CPL has worked with several teams within GO-East on various projects including: the redesigning of its main quarterly newsletter GO-East Update; the production of Outlook, another quarterly newsletter published in partnership with the Home Office; a brochure celebrating the work of the region's Millennium Volunteers; and a booklet for the Learning Support Team.

OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development)
We were called in to put into effect a redesign of this leading
global body's flagship magazine OECD Observer, against
tight deadlines imposed by a special Forum in 2001. The magazine
was produced in two languages in time for the Forum, and - according
to its Editor-in-Chief - was the best-looking issue in the magazine's
40-year history...

Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA)
We entered into a formal partnership with the Government's
former IT agency (now the Office of Government Commerce) to design, edit and publish a set of six
books called Tackling the Year 2000. These "best
practice" guides were the only Government-authored comprehensive
guidance available in the world in the run-up to the Year
2000. An extensive marketing push by CPL achieved sales in
excess of £750,000, making the work one of CCTA's most
successful. We went on to produce a CD-ROM version, and to
publish case studies for CCTA.
Our work with CCTA in this area led us to co-found the Year 2000 Support Centre, which aimed to provide information about
Year 2000 compliance issues for the SME sector. We wrote a
book, A business guide to the Year 2000, which became
a best-seller, with more than 200,000 copies being printed
in five different languages. It was endorsed by a number of
governments and was adopted by the World Bank as its "best
practice" guide to the business issues involved. We also
produced a range of CD-ROMs and printed support materials
for smaller firms, which were mainly distributed through the UK's Business Link network.
